DIY- Adding Glowing Eyes to Old Halloween Decorations

DIY tutorial- spook-up Halloween this year with glowing, optical illusion ‘Kaleidoscope’ eyes. Might scare away the trick-or-treaters- but hey who cares when there is candy involved? 😉 A Halloweeen Craft Hacker Special.

♦ Paper Cups- or experiment with Keurig cups
♦ Markers (AND/OR) Acrylic paint, rhinestones, glitter, nail foil- anything colorful that you can decorate the inside of the cup with.
♦Hot glue or duct tape to attach cups
♦ Small LED lights- You can find them in the floral section of Hobby Lobby or Michael’s. They are typically used to light up floral wedding arrangements.
♦ Round glass cabochons- 1″ (25mm) will fit most decorations. These can be a little tricky to find. I found at Hobby lobby, but not at Michael’s. The easiest and cheapest way is to buy is online at Amazon or E bay.

Getting the cups to stick to the inside of head can be quite a challenge for some decorations!! I had the best luck with hard plastic masks. They already have holes for the eyes and an open back so adding the cups is not difficult.

I could NOT get the plastic cups to stick well to soft latex masks. I had to scrap a clown mask because I could not figure out how to add stuffing to the inside of the mask without blocking the LED light or knocking off the cups. It was quite frustrating to say the least.

I also had a hard time with the skull because I could barely fit my hand through the bottom to attach the cabochons or cups. With lots of effort I made it work, but it was difficult.

I liked the effect with longer cups. For most, I just cut flaps in the cup long enough to attach to mask. If the cups stick out too far you can glue/tape a black plastic bag around the back of the head to hide.
